Modern dance stems from the strength and technique of ballet, and is freedom of expression. This dance technique was developed in the 1900’s. Though it was derived from ballet, modern dance contrasts the linear shapes of ballet and is more of an abstract way of moving through the space. Many different styles of modern include Graham, Cunningham, and Horton, and we focus on the differences of each one so that students are well-rounded.
